LTI 1.3 Integration Guide
Ember registers as an LTI 1.3 tool provider so teachers can launch Ember from Canvas, Moodle, Schoology, and other compatible LMS platforms — with secure single sign-on and optional grade passback.
Before you begin
Your district or institution needs an active Ember tenant. An Ember administrator will provide:
- Client ID and platform registration details
- Tenant-specific endpoint URLs (OIDC login, launch URL, public keyset)
- Placement guidance for course navigation and assignment selection
Do not publish generic endpoint URLs. Each deployment uses tenant-scoped credentials. Request your registration packet from support@ember.edu or your Ember account team.
Canvas (Instructure)
- In Canvas, open Admin → Developer Keys and create an LTI Key (LTI 1.3).
- Enter the Redirect URI, JWKS URL, and Client ID from your Ember registration packet.
- Under Settings → Apps, add the tool and enable placements such as Course navigation and Assignment selection (optional).
- Choose LTI 1.3 with the Public JWK key method.
Ember supports LTI Advantage services including grade passback (AGS), roster membership (NRPS), and deep linking where your contract includes them.
Moodle
- Go to Site administration → Plugins → External tool → Manage tools.
- Choose configure a tool manually.
- Set LTI version to 1.3.
- Enter the Public keyset URL, Initiate login URL, and Redirection URI(s) from your Ember registration packet.
- Enable Content-Item Message if you plan to use deep linking.
Schoology & other platforms
Any LMS that supports LTI 1.3 and OpenID Connect can connect to Ember. Share your platform name with our integrations team — we provide a platform-specific checklist and test plan.
Similarity & integrity (optional)
Districts with a Turnitin license can enable similarity checking through Ember’s integrity workflow. This is configured during onboarding; it is not required for core LTI launch.
Verification & support
After registration, your Ember administrator can validate the connection from Admin → LTI Configuration in the Ember dashboard.
